Obituary

Shirley Loraine Dunn passed away peacefully at the Russell Personal Care Home on August 14 at the age of 90 years.

Shirley was born August 26, 1932, to Fred and Irene (Armstrong) Briggs in Russell at the Sacred Heart Hospital.  She attended Asessippi School and then for her high school years, she moved to Russell and boarded with Bonnie Stewart (Dunn) at the Shipp house.  Shirley then attended Normal School and taught school in Elphinstone for 1 year.  Shirley met Mervyn Dunn when she went to visit at the Dunn farm with her school friend Bonnie.  Mervyn and Shirley were married June 23, 1951, at the Knox United Church in Russell, MB.  They lived in the municipality of Silver Creek at Primrose Hereford Farms and together they raised 5 children.  They lived on the home farm until April 1, 1989, then moved to Russell where they built their house.

Shirley was involved in many community activities.  She taught Sunday School at Minniska United Church and Russell Knox United Church, and she was a 4-H leader for the Silverton Nifty Needlers Club.  Shirley was a very dedicated member of the Russell Royal Purple Lodge for over 50 years where she served as District Deputy for two years and was the pianist for many years.  Shirley’s faith was strong, she loved her church and served as a committed member of the Russell Knox United Church UCW for many years serving her church and community.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Mervyn, her parents Fred and Irene Briggs, parents-in-law Watson and Florence Dunn, infant daughter Betty, brother-in-law Bob Stewart, half brother and sister-in-law Wilfred and Edith Briggs, son-in-law Calvin Jones, nephews Brad and Bruce Stewart and great niece Marley Stewart.

Shirley is survived by daughters Carol Jones, Cheryl (Lyle) Robinson, sons Fred (Debbie) Dunn, Jack (Kerry) Dunn, and Neil (Symantha) Dunn. 11 Grandchildren:  Mark (Rachel) Jones, Lindsay (Shaun) Cupples, Sacha (Shane) Dunn, Shaun (Daelyn) Dunn, Kyle (Janna) Robinson, Brock (Stavros) Robinson, Laci Dunn, Josh Dunn, Jory (Hailey) Dunn, Courtney (Sean) Dunn, Dylan (Jessilyn) Dunn.  14 Great Grandchildren:  Cassidy, Caleb, Jaxtyn, Brooks, Reid, Cash, Kane, Ainsley, Jace, Daxton, Camden, Alex, Erik, and Levi.  Sister-in-law Bonnie Stewart and her family, Brent (Dale), Marilyn (Brian), Chris Kohler (Bruce), Carol McKay (Brad) and their families.  Nieces Doreen and Donna Briggs.
