Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stella Pushka on July 23, 2023 at the age of 103.

Stella was the second of four girls born to Charlie HYRA & Polly (DEYDEY) on Jan 5, 1920 in the RM of Silver Creek. She attended the local school until Grade 10, then worked various jobs until she met Paul Pushka and later married on August 13, 1944. Stella and Paul farmed 4 miles south of Angusville where their son Larrie was born in 1945 and Clinton in 1949. When the boys were young, they relocated the barn to the homestead directly south of Angusville where Clinton & Brenda presently live.

Stella, Paul and sons started out farming approx. 800 acres-along with raising ducks, geese, chickens and cows. Stella milked cows for several years to ensure they had fresh dairy products. In addition to working on the farm Stella maintained a huge garden and helped develop the large yard with trees for shelter. Angusview Farms expanded over the years to approx. 2,200 acres with 150 cows and was later sold April 2008.

The family began to grow when Larrie married Florence (SYRNYK) in July 1970 and they had two children, Amara and Nolan. Clinton married Brenda (KATCHIN) in August 1978 who also welcomed 3 kids, Clint, Nicole and Brandy.

In 1978, Paul and Stella purchased a house and relocated to Angusville. Paul continued to farm with his two boys until his passing in 1987. Stella remained in their home until she was 101 years old when she was settled at the Rossburn personal care home in September of 2021. She remained at the care home until her recent passing.

When it comes to honoring a great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, friend and sister as incredible as Stella there are so many characteristics that stand out. Stella was first and foremost hard working until the end, the true example of taking care of herself which led to her longevity and the caring matriarch our family cherished.

Stella was known for her delicious baking, homemade jams, pickles, perogies, buns and the list goes on. There was never a time you went to “Granny’s” and left hungry.

She was also very gifted at knitting, sewing, crocheting and needlepoint. She’d make socks, sweaters, toques, mitts and scarves. Gorgeous, crocheted doilies. Embroidered pillowcases and hand-stitched tablecloths. Plus down-filled pillows and comforters in every colour of the rainbow.

For those that knew Stella well and lived in Angusville, it was no surprise she took great pride in caring for her home and immaculate yard. Stella planted and maintained her large garden until the age of 101, this was her true pride.

Stella was predeceased by her son Larrie who passed away in December of 2020. As well as her parents Charlie & Polly, husband Paul and sisters Annie & Margaret.

Stella will be lovingly remembered by her son Clinton, wife Brenda, daughter in law Florence and the grandkids (Amara & Christian, Nolan & Denise, Clint, Nicole & Dwayne, Brandy & Tyler) and 9 great grandkids (Bennett, Natalie, Felix, Spencer, Chase, Mason, Lincoln, Hayla & Axton). Stella will also be remembered by her only surviving sister, Donnie, her many nieces and nephews and families.

Few people are fortunate enough to have their grandmother and mother live to 103 years old, when we look back and reflect on all these years and memories made-we know how truly blessed we are as a family to have had such an incredible person in our lives all this time. There will never be a day that goes by where you are not missed, you have left a mark on each of us in your own significant way that will not be forgotten.

We thank you for all the life lessons and memories made.

 Rest in Peace Stella
