Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Stuart Douglas of Binscarth, April 7, 2023, at the age of 83.

Stuart was born January 9, 1940 to Tom and Marjorie Douglas and was the eldest of four boys Gary (deceased), Jake (deceased) and Bruce (Annette). He grew up on the family farm west of Binscarth until he started farming on his own at the age of 19, at the former Bus Campbell farm north of Binscarth. Stuart attended a one room schoolhouse (Baldwin) which was located in his family's yard until 1951 when he moved to the public school in Binscarth. This is where he met the love of his life, Lorna Ireland, well they actually met in Sunday school. They were married October 10, 1959 and had 3 children.

Together they spent a lot of time with their children, grandchildren, and then great-grandchildren, fishing, camping and picnicking in the field during seeding and harvest.  Snowmobiling, dancing, and curling were some of the activities he enjoyed. In later years they traveled to many places in the world leading them to become snowbirds.

Winter months Stuart spent working at General Steel Wares, Metropolitan Construction, CO-OP Implements, K1 and K2 Potash Mines. He farmed and worked on road construction between Foxwarren and Grandview and also drove school bus.

Stuart retired from farming in 2000 and moved into town but could not stay away long and was back in the field the next season sharing his wealth of knowledge and wisdom in farming with those that he worked for. He continued farming this way until 2022. Stuart felt so fortunate to be able to operate the most modern machinery available which was a dream come true for him.

Stuart is survived by his wife Lorna of 63 years, children: Pamela (Roger- deceased), Kimberley (Young), and Geraldine (Aug. 10-27,1967-deceased). Grandchildren: Colin (Blanca), Serena (Garfield), Adrian and Chevaughn. Great grandchildren: Arianna, Melody, Harmony, Bethany and Kaylee. Brother: Bruce (Annette).
