Interment at Parish Cemetery
Surrounded by her children, Verna Jean Ziprick (nee Semaniuk) of Russell, Manitoba entered into Eternal Life on September 29, 2022 at the Assiniboine Center in Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 77 years old. She was born September 8, 1945 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Russell, Manitoba.
She grew up on a farm in the Mears district in the RM of Rossburn, just south of Riding Mountain National Park. While the countryside was beautiful, the lifestyle was very hard which instilled a don’t feel sorry for yourself and get it done attitude she lived by every day. In 1963 she moved to Russell to work at the Royal Bank, renting a room in a house that led to a chance meeting that changed her life. That meeting was with a man whose parents happened to live next door.
On June 19, 1965 she was united in marriage to Herbert Ziprick. They were blessed with 4 children, 2 daughters (Sandra and Shannon) and 2 sons (Dale and Kevin). Together they farmed in the Londonderry district in the RM of Russell and ran a successful greenhouse operation for a number of years. In 1991 they moved to the town of Russell and built their retirement home. Verna worked in the Russell Personal Care Home from 1985 to 2017 having roles of a health care aide and later as a dietary aide.
After retiring, Verna enjoyed travelling and was able to visit places such as Florida, Las Vegas, Canadian east coast, California and went on a Mediterranean cruise. She had many trips to Ontario and Alberta to visit her daughters. Verna also had a love for gardening, reading, crocheting, volunteering in her local community and baking. Her numerous awards as a member of the Russell Horticultural Society were just a mere reflection of the immaculate garden and flower beds that surrounded their home in Russell right up to her leaving to live in Brandon.
She was a dedicated member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Inglis for over 50 years, enthusiastically serving with various committees and support groups. Being part of the church forged life log friendships that she cherished.
She was predeceased by her parents George and Olive (nee Korolyk) Semaniuk and her husband Herbert Ziprick.
Verna leaves to mourn her children Sandra (Ted) Phillips and grandson Brandon; daughter Shannon (Dustin) Leskosky and grandson Kade; Dale (Carrie) Ziprick, grandson Mathieu and granddaughter Madison; son Kevin (Joelle) Ziprick, granddaughters Reese and Rory and grandson Treyton. She also is survived by her only sister Lillian Abbott and 13 nieces and nephews.
Verna was a very caring and patient person. She was always hard working and rarely sat for a moment. Now she finally gets to.
A special thank you to many individuals in the community for all their support for Verna’s care, especially Heather Betke and Debbie Aberhart. Our family could not have done this without such a caring community.
