Victor Hodkinson Obituary

Victor Hodkinson-beloved husband of Martha, Father of Scott (Shirley) and Shannon, Grandfather of Jordan (Chantel), Justin (Jamie), Brittany (Johnathen), Taryn (Dylan), Taylor (Doniven) Great Grampa to Frankie, Blair, Barrett, Harper, Owen, Willou, Rylee, and Bennett passed away on October 10, 2024, at age 88 at the Fairview Home.

Vic grew up on the family farm in the Solsgirth area with his siblings Sheila, Johnny (died in infancy), Norman, Agnes, and Dan.

He attended school in Burdett and Solsgirth. He farmed with his dad, and worked several winters in Bird, MB. On the Dewline, and mining in Thompson, MB.

In 1961 he married Martha Koroscil and began their life together on the family farm. Son Scott was born in 1963, and daughter Shannon was born in 1966.

Life was busy with work, baseball, hockey, figure skating, music lessons, curling, golfing, etc. Vic was very proud of the accomplishments of his family.

Vic was a hard worker and besides farming, he often drove truck for W.E. Bicknell. He eventually bought his own semi and continued to work with the Bicknell crew.

Curling was his big passion, and he hardly even missed a bonspiel…especially Miniota. Golfing and camping were favorites. Many miles were travelled in their 5th wheel, often with the grandkids.

He loved spending time with grandchildren…taught all 5 of them how to drive, and often went golfing with the whole crew.

Holidays were enjoyed with motor trips across Canada and the US, as well as trips to Cuba, Mexico, Disney World, Vegas, Alaska and a Caribbean cruise. The last trip to Newfoundland was special… the last Canadian province to visit.

Retirement in 2014 meant selling the farm, and a move to Brandon to the Monterey Estates.

Vic will be remembered and forever loved by Martha, his wife of 63 years; Son Scott (Shirley) and their families; Daughter Shannon and her family; Sister-in-law Lorna Koroscil and Pat Koroscil; Brother-in-law Jerry Lyttle; Numerous very caring nieces and nephews. Also, Lorne Naylor and Taylor Crossley.

Victor was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings…as well as Martha’s parents and all her siblings.

According to his wishes, the family will celebrate his life privately.

Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Fairview Home.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Birtle Curling Rink.
