Wanda Kitz Obituary

Wanda Kitz was welcomed home by her Saviour on July 9th, six months short of her 100th birthday. Wanda was born in Bateman, SK, the third of six children in the family of Gottlieb and Emily Ziebart. In August 1937, due to dustbowl conditions, the family moved from southwestern Saskatchewan to establish a homestead near Aaron, in the northeast of the province near the Manitoba border.

On January 27, 1943, Wanda married the tall, handsome man of her dreams, Ewald Kitz. Their union was blessed with seven children, Dorothy (deceased 1945), Georgina (Poier), Edith (Wuschke), Edna (Olson), sons David and Dale, and Donna (Merryweather).

Wanda and Ewald had a thriving mixed farming operation three miles south of MacNutt. Wanda was actively involved in the farm. She kept chickens, milked cows, raked hay and maintained a large garden to feed a growing family. In addition, she was actively involved in the Landestreu Church and community.

Wanda and Ewald retired from the farm in 1980 and built a home in Churchbridge. There they enjoyed entertaining family and friends and socializing with other seniors. Their door was always open. Sadly, Ewald passed away in 1988.

Though now alone, Wanda maintained an active lifestyle. She kept herself busy with a variety of sewing projects. For many years she sewed and donated up to a hundred quilts to Lutheran World Relief. She was wonderfully creative and loved to tell stories and play cards. Above all, she loved her Saviour, her church, and her family.

Wanda was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her first child, and her siblings: Ernest, Henry, Rudy, Anne, and John. She will be fondly remembered by her six remaining children and their spouses, as well as eighteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.

Thanks goes to the staff at the Centennial Special Care Home in Langenburg for their help with Wanda during her final days.
