On Sunday October 31, 2021 Wayne passed away at age 77 at the Russell Hospital. Wayne was born Oct. 30, 1944 in Russell, MB and will be deeply missed by his wife, Janet of 54 years, his son Rick and Debbie (Roger Watts), grandchildren Jenna & Mark and great grandchildren Gwen, Chase & Deccan. His brothers Glenn (Glenda), Bob (Elaine) & sisters Irene & Bonnie (Allan Woodhouse), many nieces, nephews & cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Betty & father Fred, his brother Murray, Fred & sisters Roberta & Margaret.
Wayne worked at the K1 mine at Esterhazy, then in Saskatoon as a lead hand in which he managed a crew of 21 men. In 1967 he met & married Janet Cusitar and a year later they settled into a homestead east of Binscarth & started farming. His son Rick arrived in 1968 and daughter Debbie in 1974. Farming was his life & Wayne and Janet built a life together on the farm. In 1992, in a partnership with Rick, they expanded into PMU until 2005. Refocusing back to grain farming, Wayne & Rick worked side by side to grow the operation over the years. Adding to his life was some international travel to Germany, the Netherlands (to visit Debbie & Roger), Belgium, France, Scotland, Cuba, Mexico and some snowbirding to Arizona during the chilly winter months.
Wayne was quiet but his presence was always known. His two loves were farming & family. Although he was happy in the tractor, he was happiest when holding his grandkids & great grandchildren. Wayne has a big sense of pride in the community of Binscarth and especially loved July 1st celebrations & the parade. To honour Wayne, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Binscarth Park & Pool and/or Binscarth Ball Park Project.
